Dos Commands For System Managers

Here are some useful Dos commands For system administrators

Networking
ipconfig – Windows IP Configuration
This has to the DOS command I use most today. ipconfig will tell you the IP settings for the current computer such as what your current IP is and what subnet/gateway you are on. It is great for troubleshooting. Here are the two most useful commands for ipconfig and usage:
ipconfig /release – This will release any IP information that the computer was given and make your IP address 0.0.0.0

ipconfig /renew
This will ask any DHCP servers (usually your modem/router) for a new IP address.
ping – Check a connection or computer
Ping is used to check the health of a connection. The ping command will tell you whether a network device is responding and how fast it is running. The ping tool can also be used to convert a web address into an IP (eg. www.google.com = 74.125.19.99). Usage:
ping www.google.com – Pings a webserver to see if it can be reached or is responding. I personally use this to see if the computer I am on can reach the internet.
ping 192.168.0.1 – Pings a local address, often a modem, router or another computer.

netstat – Displays current TCP/IP connections
netstat – Will display what connections are currently active on the system. Useful for spotting programs calling back to base such as spyware.

How to disable error reporting in Internet exlporer

Error in Internet Explorer
Error Reporting is on by default in Windows XP ProfessionalService Pack 1. The service gives Microsoft the ability to track and address errors relating to the operating system, components, and applications. The ideabehind the service was that Microsoft would be able to track down bugs and fixthem more efficiently and quickly.
Many users do not need or want to take advantage of thisfeature and would like to turn it off. Many of these users are concerned aboutwhat information is being passed on to Microsoft and about their privacy. Otherusers are just annoyed at how often they see the screen (Figure A) that asks them to submit the bug through the ErrorReporting service.VAXenGuy discovered. If you still get error messages afterdisabling Error Reporting, especially dubious ones, you could disable theservice with a Windows Registry edit.

Solution 1
The controls to turn off or customize Windows ErrorReporting reside in System Settings, located in the Control Panel. (You canalso right-click My Computer and select Properties.) In the System Settingsdialog box, select the Advanced tab and then click the Error Reporting buttonto reveal the Error Reporting dialog box shown in Figure B.
Error Reporting configuration

From this dialog box, you can disable Error Reporting orcustomize it to work only on certain programs and/or Windows components.
Once you've disabled Error Reporting, you might as welldisable the service entirely, which you can do through Administrative Tools inthe Control Panel. Double-click on Services from the Administrative Toolsdialog box, scroll down to the Error Reporting entry, and double-click it. Fromthis dialog box, you can stop the service or restart it if you turned if offbefore.
Solution 2
Apparently, even disabling Error Reporting through theconventional means may not be enough, as
Open the Windows Registry with your favorite editor andnavigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PCHealth\ErrorReporting
To disable Error Reporting, make sure all of the values located in this key are set to zero.

Posting of husband and wife – Same station – DOPT Order Posting of husband and wife – Same station – DOPT Order

F.NO.28034/9/2009-Estt.(A)
Government of India
Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions
(Department of Personnel and Training)

North Block, New Delhi,
Dated the 30th September, 2009.

OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: Posting of husband and wife at the same station.

*******

In view of the utmost importance attached to the enhancement of women’s status in all walks of life and to enable them to lead a normal family life as also to ensure the education and welfare of the children, guidelines were issued by DOP&T in O.M No. 28034/7/86-Estt.(A) dated 3.4.86 and No.28034/2/97-Estt.(A) dated 12.6.97 for posting of husband and wife who are in Government service, at the same station. Department had on 23.8.2004 issued instructions to all Mins. / Deptts. to follow the above guidelines in letter and spirit.

2. In the context of the need to make concerted efforts to increase representation of women in Central Government jobs, these guidelines have been reviewed to see whether the instructions could be made mandatory. It has been decided that when both spouses are in same Central Service or working in same Deptt. and if posts are available, they may mandatorily be posted at the same station. It is also necessary to make the provisions at Paras 3(iv) and (vi) of the O.M. dated 3.4.86 stronger as it is not always necessary that the service to which the spouse with longer service belongs has adequate number of posts and posting to the nearest station by either of the Department may become necessary.

3. On the basis of the 6th CPC Report, Govt. servants have already been allowed the facility of Child Care Leave which is admissible till the children attain 18 years of age. On similar lines, provisions of O.M. dated 12.6.97 have been amended.

4. The onsolidated guidelines will now be as follows:

(i) Where the spouses belong to the same All India Service or two of the All India Services, namely lAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service (Group ‘A’);
The spouse may be transferred to the same cadre by providing for a cadre transfer of one spouse to the Cadre of the other spouse, on the request of the member of service subject to the member of service not being posted under this process to his/her home cadre. Postings within the Cadre will, of course, fall within the purview of the State Govt.

Different Kinds Of RAM?

  •               DDR SDRAM, also called DDR or DDR1, is one of the more common types of memory found in desktop and notebook      computers. DDR1 RAM is capable of a maximum transfer speed of 3,200 MB per second. This is significantly faster than the older standard, SDRAM, but is slower than DDR2 and DDR3 RAM. DDR1 RAM is capable of a maximum transfer speed of 3,200 MB per second. DDR1 RAM is not interchangeable with SDRAM, DDR2-SDRAM, or DDR3-SDRAM. A computer that has DDR1 installed can handle only that type of RAM. The different types of RAM modules are keyed with tabs and notches, preventing them from being installed into incompatible motherboards. A RAM module should never be forced into an upgrade slot if it cannot be inserted easily
